The Saboteur

World War II is arguably the most overused foundation used in videogame history, with quite literally countless titles casting you in the role of a soldier in some part of the conflict. The Saboteur however looks at the conflict from a different perspective.

The perspective in question is that in The Saboteur you take the role of Sean, an ordinary Irish guy whose friends are calously murdered by German soldiers early on – and from that moment he intends to seek revenge. He does not go about this by signing up for the allied forces and going head to head with the German army though – no, instead he goes it alone with the sole intention of avenging the murders of his friends by inflicting a similar end upon those few germans directly responsible.
THE SABOTEUR TRAILER

The Saboteur comes across as something of a stealth based action title, as your character Sean is capable and a bit rough which makes the game look, feel and play very differently to the militant style you’re used to from World War II based titles. His lack of “training” in the sort of things he has to do to meet his goals force you at times to hit the shadows, blend into crowds and go for silent kills more often than not to avoid being picked off by other soldiers instantly.

The visuals in The Saboteur are adequate by today’s high standards, but will certainly not make the game stand out from the crowd alone when you compare it to the likes of Assassins Creed II, Modern Warfare 2 and Gran Turismo 5 – but the storyline alone should be more than enough to make sure it generates enough of a following to sell well, and possibly spawn sequals.

The Saboteur hits stores on December 5th 2009 for the PC, Playstation 3 and XBox 360.
