In most gamers eyes it is definitive racing simulation series, here it is coming round for its 5th lap in the shape of Gran Turismo 5 and looks, feels and sounds bigger and better than ever before.

The racing simulation genre as a whole has arguably seen more top quality titles released over the past year than any other genre, all of which have ultimately aspired to match and surpass the standards set by Gran Turismo games of old – and some of them managed to do just that. Now Gran Turismo 5 is approaching fast and intends to reclaim pole position.

Without doubt the one trademark of Gran Turismo titles over the years is the quality of the graphics. Not one entry into the series has failed to impress with stunningly rendered vehicles and tracks with incredible attention to detail – and this trend continues in Gran Turismo 5 and improvements are made on a much grander scale than we’ve seen before.

The detail on vehicles alone has been increased by over 400,000 polygons, that’s more than 100 times than the previous title! You will at times forget you are playing a game and think you’re watching Nascar or the World Rally Championship live on TV! The games physics engine has been given a complete overhaul too.

There are more than 950 cars to choose from in Gran Turismo 5, all of which you can upgrade as in previous titles – and you’ll race them around more than 70 track variations in 20 different locations – all of which have, as usual, been re-created with stunning visuals and attention to detail.
